Black and white photography is the ultimate challenge for photographers. The goal of this book was to focus on my black and white photography and to test my infrared camera to see how far I could push the boundaries. Of the 148 photos used in the book, 142 of these photos were taken with a mirrorless Nikon Z50 which was converted to an infrared 590nm camera. Additionally, six photos were taken with a DSLR Nikon D500 and the photos were converted to black and white.

My first photos of the dunes were in the fall of 2021, and there began a several year obsession with capturing the dunes in various seasons and lighting conditions. Photographing in both color and, starting in 2025, in infrared black and white. The vastness and isolation of the Ten Mile Dunes is spectacular. My hope is that this book is an inspiration to head out and explore them, or at the very least, be able to walk in my footsteps as I explore the ever changing dunes.

What began as a photography class assignment in architecture proposed by our Mendocino College instructor, Markus Pfizner, evolved into a year-long photography project to photograph the Zen Jewel Sanctuary through all four seasons. The history of Love Locks dates back over 100 years to 1914 Serbia during World War I. The story states that a school teacher proclaimed her love for a Serbian officer who was sent to war by placing a lock on a bridge. The Pudding Creek Trestle Love Locks photos are a subjective selection of the many, ever-increasing locks that are being added.
